Shelby Soccer gets State Hardware

They have been celebrating for months, but Saturday night they got the hardware to show it off.

At their banquet at Central United Methodist Church the 2009 Shelby High School's Boys Soccer team finally got their state championship ring.

The team is the first ever soccer team to win a state championship in the county after their 2-1 victory over Pittsboro Northwood in November.

Players received several memorabilia items including a home jersey, under armor jacket, Shelby High School State Champions license plate, and a Sports Illustrated cover.

Coach David Steeves also gave out awards for most improved, defensive and offensive player of the year, coaches award and MVP.

All Conference, All Region, and All State players were also announced.

After a long wait the Golden Lion state champs finally got their first glimpse at their state ring.
