Republicans Hold County Convention

It was all about the local level focusing on leadership, representation, and delegation.

The Cleveland County Republican Convention joined together last night at the Kings Mountain City Hall for their annual precinct meeting to elect delegates to county convention level for registered Republicans.

Those attending; all locally elected Republicans along with candidates for office including Regional Director for Congressman McHenry’s Office Brett Keeter, as well as local candidates such as Representative Tim Moore and State Sen. Debbie Clary.

“The reason we came tonight is the Republican Convention. If you want to move onto the state convention you have to attend your local convention first,” says State Sen. Debbie Clary.

The county convention convened to elect delegates to district and state convention. Cathy Hartkopf of North Carolina’s largest group in the United States "Freedom Works" with more than 40,000 members, spoke about reducing taxes, and the size and scope of government.

Neal Thomas, a resident of Shelby, says he wants to make a change, that’s why he’s serving as a delegate this year. “If I can become a delegate and do my part....to help bring the Republican Party back to it's conservative roots. Then that's what I want to do.”
