A poker ride for Jace
It’s been three years since the tragic death of Jace Barrow, the 5-month-old child who lost his life to child abuse in the hands of his father, Chad Barrow.
This past weekend when local and regional bikers came together for the second annual Jace Man Poker Run—a 78-mile ride--sponsored by The Concerned Bikers Association. Wendy Panther, Jace’s aunt says the event is about turning a bad situation around. “We wanted to turn a bad situation into something good. We ride motorcycles and this is how we felt we can do something.”
Bikers had three chances during the day to participate in the ride. All proceeds will be donated to the Abuse Prevention Council of Cleveland County. According to Panther, over 76 hundred dollars was turned into the APC last year. As for this year, the event is larger with a lot more activities and people involved.
Hundreds of bikers started their ride here at the VFW Club House on Sumter Street as they proceed to five different locations including South Carolina, Kings Mountain State Park, eventually heading to their last stop Brackett Cedar Park in Casar where there’s plenty of food, fun, and entertainment. The poker part involves bikers drawing playing cards at each location.
“If we can help any other children form being abused in any way and save any lives we’ve accomplished something in his honor in his memory,” says Panther.
