Goodwill celebrates Labor Day
Labor day is only a few days away, and with all the people getting their shopping lists and party gear ready, local shops are celebrating Sept. 4 with determination.
According to representatives, Goodwill Industries is celebrating the commitment of more than 41,000 people in who have utilized Goodwill’s job training and employment programs since the start of 2008.
Goodwill uses the sale of donated items to fund a variety of programs at the organization’s Career Development Center in Charlotte and six job resource centers across the region. Locally, Goodwill assisted just over 13,000 people in 2008, nearly 18,000 people in 2009, and more than 10,000 so far this year.
It’s said Goodwill’s programs help individuals facing barriers to employment such as lack of skills, experience or education.
