TALKBACK: Labor Day weekend

What are your plans for this Labor Day? A cook out? Family get together? Or will you spend some quality time on the couch watching the "boob toob." We asked some people around town to find out what their plans are this holiday weekend. “actually my son's three year birthday party is this weekend. So, we are celebrating his third birthday Labor Day weekend,” says Lindsay Phonephet.

“A trip to Georgia to see my son who's in the army. He can;t come home but he's off for labor Day. So, we are going to go see him,” says Sharon Shoemaker.

Labor Day marks more than a Unites States Federal Holiday celebrating the economic and social achievements of workers. The day also sets trends. Many think wearing white after Labor Day is a fashion “no-no." It also marks the end of the summer season with area pools starting to close, but the beginning of the football seasons. Plus, there will be plenty of shopping sales. So, be sure to hit the stores.

The holiday was first celebrated in NYC in 1882 in remembrance of the workers who died at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. Marshals during the 1894 Pullman Strike.
